Charleville Art Studio at Home

Charleville Art Studio at Home is a 10-week online extracurricular art program for children and young people from kindy through to Year 12.

A Paddock to Paintbrush initiative by Charleville Art Studio, the program has been created for families in Murweh Shire who aren't able to access an after-school art program in person.

Through Google Classroom, students will explore art through interactive activities, video tutorials, creative challenges, artist research and more — all designed to suit their developmental stage and encourage experimentation, creativity and skill development.

Rather than focusing only on creating a finished artwork, students will develop their own art journal, documenting their skills, experiments, activities, research and creative ideas throughout the 10-week program.

Art learning bought home...

Imagine your child opening their art journal, watching an artist demonstration, experimenting with a new technique and then making the idea their own.

Charleville Art Studio at Home is designed to give students the freedom to work at their own pace, experiment without the pressure of getting it "right", and develop their own creative ideas. This process-led practice integrates technique and exploration into creative play and expression while students explore how they like to create.

Each week brings something new to explore — from practical art-making and creative challenges to discovering artists, researching ideas and recording their learning in their journal.

There isn't one "perfect" artwork that every student needs to produce. Instead, students are encouraged to try, experiment, reflect and create — building confidence and skills along the way.

It's art learning that fits into family life, while still giving children the structure, guidance and inspiration of an art program.

What does each week look like?

WATCH
Begin with a video tutorial where Mrs Reynolds guides students through an explicit, hands-on technique demonstration.
EXPLORE
Try the technique using materials you have at home or from our resource packs. Each exploration starts with a prompt and the student can create alongside Mrs Reynolds.
CREATE
Make, develop and experiment with your own artwork with a written or graphic prompt on the learning portal.
REFLECT & SHARE
Record your process in your art journal, enage in a journal activity and share your work with other students at home by snapping a pic and uploading it to google classroom.

From first creative explorations to developing an individual artistic practice, activities are tailored to support students at different stages of their creative development.

Art learning at every stage

Kindy Artists | Ages 3-5 years

Explore • Experiment • Create

Young artists are encouraged to explore materials, colour, shapes, mark-making and creative ideas through playful, hands-on activities.
The focus is on building confidence, developing foundational skills and discovering the joy of making art. The best way to build confidence is to let them enjoy creating in their own way and to develop their own standards for their work.
Our youngest cohort is encouraged to make mistakes, follow their ideas and see where it takes them.

Junior Artists | Prep - Year 3

Junior artists begin building a foundation of artistic skills while continuing to experiment and play with ideas. Activities introduce techniques, materials and creative concepts in an accessible way, while encouraging students to make choices and develop their own ideas.

Senior Artists | Year 4-6

development • investigation • experimentation • creative thinking

Senior artists are ready to explore art with greater intention. Activities support developing technical skills, creative thinking and an understanding of artistic processes, while encouraging students to experiment, make decisions and begin developing their own artistic voice.

Senior artists are encouraged to incorporate their world into their creative process, interacting their sense of self into how they enjoy creating.

High School Artists | Years 7-12

independence • research • refinement • individual expression

High school artists are encouraged to take greater ownership of their creative practice. Activities provide opportunities to develop techniques, investigate artists and ideas, experiment with different approaches and pursue individual creative directions.

Something incredible happens for teens in high school, where neuroplasticity and the flow of creative ideas intersect. It's potentially the most creative time in a person's life, when they have the dexterity, creative drive, and open-mindedness to accept new ways of making. That must be nurtured.

Art making at this stage can be a lifeline, communication, expression or a way to unwind so we make creative offerings and keep the pressure off perfection.

50 places. Fully Funded

Thanks to funding through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) through Murweh Shire Council, 50 places in Charleville Art Studio at Home have been funded for families living in Murweh Shire.

If you're a Murweh Shire resident and your child isn't able to access an after-school art program, you can register your interest for a funded place.

How it works:

Register | Complete the registration form.
Receive your voucher | Eligible Murweh families will receive a voucher code for the program.
Join the Classroom | You'll receive an email in the first week of October to join Google Classrooms.
Start creating | Begin your 10-week creative journey from home.

The program is designed to use art materials and tools you already have at home however if you'd like a resource pack to get started, you can place an order and we'll ship that to you before the program begins.
